Cañoncito, at the western entrance to Glorieta Pass, is the location of the fateful encounter between John Chivington's flanking unit and the Confederate rearguard on March 28, 1862, sometimes called the Battle of Johnson's Ranch. None of the ranch buildings or other buildings of the period survive. A historic marker is the only interpretation of the site at present.
